Re: Lonnie Donegan

I bought a CD of Donegan's only last summer. I wore my old vinyl out when a teenager. I loved Midnight Special, Grand Coolie Dam and all of those type songs, but did not like it when he did My Old Man's a Dustman.

Re: Lonnie Donegan

My dad used to have a skiffle group in the late 50's. He played harmonica and guitar and sang with the others who all played instuments even a wash board and Lonnie was their hero. Lonnie covered most of Woody Guthries songs, still ace though.

Re: Lonnie Donegan

As you will see from Galtys post the man was a grafter, he was working right up to the time he died, he was good at his trade (Unlike so many modern musicians) and he could act a bit too ('tho he never did much acting) in my youth he offered good music without the patronising, loutish, foul mouthed antics of the current mob, keep singing and playing those songs up there Lonnie.

Re: Lonnie Donegan

Yeh I agree there Losos, There was many a party at our house where I grew up with my dad playing his guitar and harmonica while another used my mums washing board and thimbles all singing songs of Lonnies or as dad called him "Donnie Lonegan". Btw did you know Lonnie wrote Nights In White Satin for the Moodyblues? What a talent!

No I didn't know that - thank you - I know he wrote a good few of that long list Galty posted.

As you rightly said - What a talent.
