Re: Crufts

So Crufts and any other show..Is all about the love of dogs..

So what dog lover poisoned the red setter Jagger and possibly another dog a westie..

What dog lover is plastered all over twitter after he was seen beating a border collie in the car park at crufts?

Sorry, the comments are very 18+
The man had a canadian flag on the back of his shirt..

Im sorry but its time that this and other shows went the way of relics such as beauty pagents and knobbly knee competitions. Dogs should be bred for health not looks and a dog should be part of your family because you love and want them not because they have value as a status symbol.

Re: Crufts

Precisely Cass. I totally agree. Like I keep saying, it's prestige for the OWNER, the dog doesn't know. Oh, and of course a money spinner for the future if your dog wins at Crufts.
I don't give a fig what some pompous stranger thinks of my dogs, they are MINE, and I love 'em warts and all.
Also completely agree entirely about health first - not beauty.
This is what caused the uproar several years back, and why several large and prestigious organisations pulled out of sponsoring Crufts anymore.

The problem that always occurs to me especially when they are judging for 'Best in Show' is they are not comparing like for like a Pekinese is a very different dog to an Alaskan Malamute so how is it possible to pick one over the other

The news about an Irish Setter being poisoned (If it turns out to be true) is devastating but I have been told so many times about how bitchy and devious competitors at Crufts are.

Mups, what do you think a dog would do if you offered it three rosettes Red, Green, Blue (each soaked in gravy)

Losos ~
3 of mine would probably lick the gravy off and leave the rosettes, (though the pup might cart it off to play with).

1 would probably walk away and go back to bed.

The last one would probably think and I had gone mad, and wait for her proper dinner.

I can assure you that none of them would be overjoyed, look on it as a money spinner, or use it to sell their future 'babies' to add to their pension plan.

Re: Crufts

I absolutely hate any kind of show, dogs, babies, talent shows, beauty competitions etc, you name it I hate it. Try explaining to a baby or it's mother that the winning baby is prettier, better formed, etc etc than you or your baby. Try explaining the same thing to a dog, a cat, a child who tries to sing etc etc. It's nothing but bitter disappointment and heartache for many. The jealousies and bitter resentments must be many, if I had my way, which obviously I don't and never will have, I would ban all such things. I feel very sorry for "show dogs", dragged all over the place, kept simply to make owners rich and boost their often already inflated egos, it's certainly not a happy life for the dogs.

Re: Crufts

I listened to the co-owner of Jagger speaking on Radio 4 yesterday morning and was appalled at how cold he seemed. He spoke as though the dog was an expendable commodity not a beautiful living creature.

If anyone had hurt one of my cats I would be out for blood - he just seem to shrug it off.

I understand you Silver Tabby, if anyone even attempted to harm my dogs I would most likely end up in prison for GBH. No doubt poor Jagger was well insured and the owner knows he will get money, it also seems to be very good publicity for him.

Kennel Club has confirmed it is looking into reports that as many as six dogs were poisoned at this year's Crufts show.

Irish setter Jagger, who came second in his class at the show last Thursday, collapsed and died the day after returning to Belgium from the event at Birmingham's NEC.

The animal's joint owners have claimed that beef laced with unknown poisons was found during a post-mortem examination into the dog's death.

Several other dogs, including a West Highland white terrier, an Afghan hound and a Shih Tzu were also sick after the show, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Mylee Thomas claims her Shetland sheepdog Myter Eye to Eye was poisoned the day after Jagger died.

She told the newspaper: "The setter was poisoned the day before my bitch, and I don't think there is a link between the two.

"I think that one (Jagger) was someone who had randomly targeted them because a lot of people don't agree with Crufts."

The Kennel Club, which organises the prestigious show, said it had not received any reports over suspicions of poisoning.

A spokeswoman said they were looking into the reports, but said no formal investigation was underway.

She said: "The facts surrounding Jagger's sad death are still being established.

"With regards to speculation about any other incidents involving other dogs, we must stress that these are at this stage just rumours.

"There are any number of reasons why a dog may display symptoms such as sickness and should a dog fall sick there are vets at Crufts who will examine the dog in question and file a report."

She added: "As with any international competition rumours of sabotage do occasionally surface. This of course is not in the spirit of competition and will not be tolerated.

"Anyone caught attempting to deliberately sabotage another competitor's performance, particularly if a dog's welfare is put at risk, will face severe disciplinary action, which could include a ban on competing at all Kennel Club licensed events.

"Furthermore anyone who puts a dog's welfare at risk could face prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act."

She added that no vets had raised concerns about poisoning and no official complaints from any other owners at Crufts had been made.

West Midlands Police has said it was liaising with Crufts officials and the NEC to secure any potential evidence.

Jagger was owned by Belgian Aleksandra Lauwers and Leicester-based breeders Dee Milligan-Bott and her husband, Jeremy Bott.

Mrs Milligan-Bott, who believes the suspected poisoning was a random attack, called it a "heinous crime" and she did not think another exhibitor was responsible .

Mr Bott said it was "out of the question" that other Crufts owners could have set out to kill Jagger.

The four-day show finished on Sunday, with Scottish Terrier Knopa named Best In Show.

Jagger's owners also said on the news that it won't stop them competing again next year !!!!

I don't think wild horses would drag me there if someone had killed one of my dogs. I'd be too scared it has given other nutters the idea of a copycat crimes now.
