Only a complete idiot would buy a computer without a keyboard and then go back and pay for a keyboard separately. Yet it seems the world is full of them. Go figure !

I have both.....and rarely use my laptop anymore. I can do emails, banking, forum, games, watch movies, read books, listen to music, facebook, skype etc, etc, etc. I have a samsung tablet and you can get a Bluetooth keyboard to sync to if you find the screen keyboard too small.

Right have made a decision now just need to find the right machine, I actually need usb ports and sd slots etc and the cheaper end of the tablet market seem to have decided they are not needed, I also need a cd slot as many of my sewing patterns are on cds. So I need a laptop, now the fun begins which one has what I need at a price I am willing to pay
Thank you all for your help it has made deciding easier as some things I would never have thought of without your prompting.

Julie, have a surf of Laptops Direct.They are a big company, also have braches for TVs and lots of other things. Very well established. I've had 6-7 laptops / netbooks from them over the years. They deliver very quickly and I've never had a single problem. Good prices too.
Not sure how much you want to pay but here's a couple of good ASUS laptops:

Note with the cheaper one there is no CD/DVD drive but that you can buy a simple external USB one for just £22 !
So don't let the CD requirement sway you too much, you might be able to buy a much cheaper and much lighter and thinner laptop without a drive and then just have an external one for the few times you may need to use it.
