Re: Favourite Detective

I used to love Columbo - no idea why as you always knew who the murderer was - as soon as they appeared, they smirked, or did a dodgy expression! He could work it out too, even with the smoke from his cigar going into his bad eye. A lovely hour of mindless TV!

Brother Cadfael in Ellis Peters series. Wouldn't watch the TV shows, they never get it right IMO.

Re: Favourite Detective

I am not keen on Detective programmes but my hubby is addicted to crime in both book and TV forms if I were to name one I watch it is mostly Poirot but hubby's favourite books are Ian Rankins Rebus he say the same that Ken Stott fits the part the best but his argument is that the TV programmes can't put enough detail in as they are too short in time length... I am more a Catherine Cookson, Audrey Howard, fan when we go to the library I always say I am trying to find out how to love him to death and he is well ..... just trying to find out the best way!!!!!

Re: Favourite Detective

I had to go away and have a think about this ..........

1. John Rebus (definitely preferred Ken Stott as Rebus, but books are better)
2. Aurelio Zen - Michael Dibdin's Italian policeman
3. Commissario Guido Brunetti - Donna Leon's Venetian policeman
4. Marcus Didius Falco - Lindsey Davis' Roman "detective"

I also like Morse and Adam Dalgleish. Also remember fondly Lord Peter Wimsey - read a lot of Dorothy L Sayers as a teenager.
