Sally Hemings

I am fascinated by the story of Sally Hemings a slave woman owned by Thomas Jefferson who gave him six children .

There is no known picture of Sally but she was reportedly very good looking .

She was 7/8 white and his late wife’s half sister .

Jefferson’s showed no fatherly affection for his children by her although he freed them in his will and all did good in later life .

His plantation Monticello must have been a strange place everyone seemed to be related .

I would imagine there may have been a lot of similar incidents among slaves and slave owners.
