Yep, these are the ones we're talking about.

How will locking them up help them?

Re: Does being a good human being matter to you?

Keeping them alive in some form of oubliette serves a very good purpose. It destroys them and it takes time doing so. For the likes of Huntley I LIKE that thought.

Imagine, no contact with another human being, constant unvarying illumination, constant temperature, basic essential foodstuff only, and above all no hope of it ever ending just the same thing over and over and over and over --- get the picture?

Quite literally a living nightmare that never ends untill all traces of a person dissolved into a gibbering mess. Nothing left. No person anymore that's gone, nothing left but an eternal scream.

That's what the worst of the worst should face. Things like Huntley should face this.

Yes it does .
For all the reasons that you have been ignoring in this thread up to now .

1) Judicial retribution is not murder
2) closure for the victims families
3) safety of prison guards and other prisoners
4) cost of keeping them is immoral when innocent people are dying for lack of resources
5) it’s immoral for the families of victims to be obliged to pay for the upkeep of their loved ones murderers
6) it is a deterrent whatever you say
7) consequences -murder and you die
8) prevents repeat offences
9) it is a punishment and the punishment must fit the crime
10) it is the right thing to do -to keep heinous murderers alive is utter madness.

Re: Does being a good human being matter to you?

Everyone has a right to life but once you take away a persons life, you lose the right to yours.

A killer takes away the life of an innocent person(s) and all the majority of people care about is preserving the life of the killer.

It's a tough debate which tests the boundaries of what is 'being a good human being' all about.

This is, arguably, a strong case for using the death penalty if we are trying to mitigate the "dark ages" methods of vengeance.

Societal torture is far more cruel than an execution.
