Re: Could living abroad be achieved financially?

Friend told me today her sisters state pension has dropped dramatically in Spain due to Brexit , seems she is really struggling , she's lived out there for years .

If she were that dependent upon exchange rates maybe it wasn't such a good idea?

The exchange rate has fluctuated for years.

2013/14 was very similar to what it is today, the difference being pence on a state pension.

If you compare today's rate with the recent highest(2015/16)
The difference on say £100 is about 26 Euros(£18).

I dunno Tpin my friends who live in Spain say they are €400 euros worse off on their (joint )pensions .
I can't think what people will do if they come back to the uk if they cant survive in Spain .

I was questioning living abroad when dependent upon a State Pension.....not PPs.

If you are so dependent upon exchange rates to sustain a basic standard of living it's a bit of a gamble.

Hi

Living abroad is much better than living here in the UK, Uncle Joe says so.

Just move to a Communist Country.

Better housing, pensions, healthcare and everything else.

I have lived in America the last two decades and had great adventures, but you have to remember England is a mature country which provides housing, benefits, health care. Nothing like that here, I'm disabled now but fortunately can still work, but if I wanted to claim benefits here I would have to hire a lawyer.

Honestly I think emigrating is for when we are young and looking for interesting experiences!
