I have Noticed

That some people seem lost about what their computer is capable of.

To begin with a computer is the most stupid machine in the world, it only tells you what it has been told by others, ie, questions, equations, how to, etc but it can do it faster than you can so dont be afraid to ask it questions which you need answers to about the computer itself.

Your computer works better if you maintain it properly and clean its insides, no, not with a feather duster but using the tools that the computer has built into it for your convenience.

Do not be afraid to look into what your computer can do, as long as you do not use the 'DELETE ' button (unless you fully know what you are deleting) then you can do no harm.

Use your Help and Support program to check things out, if what you want to know is not there then Google it.

Two useful places to visit if you are not sure how you maintain your computer.

http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/maintenance.php

Failing this then post a question here and someone will tell you the answer but remember someone telling you something only stays in the memory for a short while, you reading something and doing something stays in the memory a lot longer.

Thanks for the good advice AB, very thoughtful of you helping computer dimwits like me, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it...very slowly I'm afraid.

Re: I have Noticed

I was very surprised to learn that clearing Cache daily as I do with unwanted cookies is not a good idea! I always thought that it removed things that were taking up space in memory and making the old computer run slowly. I'll stop doing it now with my new Mac. I still delete Browsing History daily for the same reason; that wasn't addressed in the article(for which many thanks!!), is that a good idea or not?

I don't clear cache or cookies unless there's a problem either - usually your cookies and cache will help things load a lot faster

Re: I have Noticed

But aren't they taking up valuable memory? My old Mac seemed to be a bit faster whenever I deleted cookies, cache and browsing history.
