No Diners here!

Inspired by Swimmy's thread, I bought a caged bird feeder yesterday morning.
So far... nothing!

Do I have to advertise it to them somehow?
There are hundreds of birds around as there are many trees and 2 woods around the estate but no takers for nuts!!!

It's squirrel proof apparently, so I can't even entertain the mammals here!

Birds are naturally suspicious of anything new in the garden. Once word goes round that it is safe - and full of food - they will flock to it, Rhian.

Tabs is right, Rhian.
They are very wary of anything new, it could be a trap for all they know!

Be patient, they will come when they understand it is not going to hurt them.

P.S. You say you have hung it in the front garden.
I have no idea how big your front garden is, but is there lots of traffic and people walking by, or can they eat undisturbed?

It's a fairly quiet cul de sac
Noise is from children playing mostly
And it's quite high up on the tree

Re: No Diners here!

The birds took about 3 weeks before the first one ventured on the bird feeders I had put up a few years ago, like others have said, it takes a while for them to realise it is no danger to them. I even added a new feeder to the others a couple of weeks ago but no way would they risk going to that one yet ..... they will though, their curiosity will get the better of them
