Crazy chaffinch is going to hurt itself

In the last couple of days I have had a chaffinch in a tree outside my bedroom window, and it keeps bumping into and attacking the top right corner of the pane. I'm concerned in case it injures itself.

In case the closed black blinds and window glass were acting like a kind of reflective surface, I've tried adjusting the window blinds from the closed position to the vertical gap position, to show it that there is something there. It still does it. I've even sat there so it can see me but that doesn't deter it and it still has a go at the top right corner!

Would a bird or cat picture do any good? Some wildlife sites say yes, some say no. If anyone could give me some advice I'd be grateful. I never thought I'd be having to deal with a crazy chaffinch in this heavily urbanised area!

Yep. It’s probably eating.
Get a cat ( kidding) or put a fan there that blows the blind around some.

It could be that the bird sees its own reflection and attacks what it thinks is another bird. Is there any way you hang a towel or something on the outside, or perhaps tape some cardboard on there?

This is more likely the reason. We have had birds doing it in car wing mirrors, windows & once the breeding season ends, they stop.

Came home yesterday to find a dead sparrow laying on the decking. No idea what caused it but it was sad because earlier, we had been sat outside a coffee shop, watching a family of them having dust baths and feeding their babies.

Maybe flew into the window.
I’d forgotten about birds seeing their reflection and becoming confused. We once had a big wild turkey pecking at our basement laundry window. It had seen its reflection it the window. We had to go inside and scare it away by peering through the window . It never came back after seeing my ugly mug. Lol

Re: Crazy chaffinch is going to hurt itself

I've printed out a picture of a cat and taped it in the window, so hopefully that might help. I think it's the reflection of itself in the glass that makes it go for the window. I can't check if there are any insects there as the window is upstairs and they don't open sufficiently to lean out and look. I got back home about 30 minutes ago and he hasn't made an appearance yet so I'm hoping the cat picture has done the trick.

Thanks all!

I agree. That's the first thing I thought of too, dongle.
