Not a recommended way to lose weight…Ow!!

Anybody ever had a stone in the parotid salivary duct? Very painful trying to eat anything. Three weeks on now and looks like I may have to see a specialist
On the bright side, I've lost a few pounds without even trying...

Oh dear Orangutan that doesnt sound very good at all....how awful for you being in so much pain
Ive not even heard of the parotid salivary duct but Im imagining it isnt a pleasant thing to have.
I hope you get some joy seeing the specialist and that you get some much needed relief asap!!!

Yep, the gland is the same one involved in mumps, but when the teeny tiny duct leading from it to the mouth gets blocked everything just seems to back up. Which means the pain spreads outwards from the gland and even my ear hurts!

Could be worse - if I had a fever they'd be shipping me off to hospital.

Thanks, all, for the sympathy. I don't usually feel the need to moan about my health but this has been unusually unpleasant.

Human no,
Dog yes Amy had a problem with a blocked saliva gland not sure it is the same one though.
Her face swelled up I thought at first it was an insect bite.

The vet evacuated the content.
She continued to have an intermittent problem with her face swelling, the vet said the content would be sterile so not to worry about infection.

I continued to evacuate it through a minute hole in the side of her mouth.

I hope you get yours sorted soon Anya
