Re: Are you a stickler..

My mum was pretty strict about table manners, when we were kids we would get fined a ha'penny for things like eating with elbows on the table!

I spend most meals eating on my lap in front of the TV.

I prefer the Thai/Korean type which are pointed towards the ends.

Me? Well I know not to use a lobster fork to pick my nose with.

At least not in public.

Too often.

I agree completely.

Yet I have seen a number of people who regard themselves as well brought up, yet who hold their knives like a pen.
From what I see, it is really very common - in both senses of the word.

Re: Are you a stickler..

I'd just like to state, here and now, that I have excellent table manners.

I never fart at the table.

Re: Are you a stickler..

Most of my generation learned table manners by watching Pretty Woman!

We always used to sit at the family table as kids with a three course meal, fully set table, napkins and a tablecloth. My dad would say grace. There would be tea and coffee after pudding. It was the event of the day.

I can't remember whether it was at school that I first saw someone eating with just a fork, shovelling food in their mouth. I thought it was charming. I guess you just go with the etiquette your parents teach you as a child.

My pet hate is if someone talks with their mouth full. Puts you right off your food.
