Thank you, Mags. I'd like to think I had a small part; I miss her to this day.

The contractions were coming fast when SIL arrived home so said to get her to hospital asap. He left the room, after a while I went to find him and he was in the bathroom being sick! He panicked. Told him he had to look after his daughter while my husband drove us to the maternity hospital.... we just made it in time. I took over the role of her birthing partner and was there for the birth. I feel blessed that this had happened, it was the most wonderful experience in the world. I was even allowed to hold my new grandson before my daughter ..... one very happy and emotional Nanna!
You made a lasting memory, Mags! Love this story. xx

It just happened an hour ago, in a minor way. I was just walking home from the gym and as I was about to cross the entrance of a supermarket car park my mother drove past me as I was at the kerb. I was able to carry the shopping for her, so she was able to get heavier stuff than she was planning to, and I got a lift home, which was nice after my workout.

It really brightened the day for us somehow.

Re: Right place right time

Mags, that is a fabulous account. Interesting experiences all around!

One of my favorites experiences was on a sunset run with my daughter who was quite little at the time. Every evening, we exchanged pleasantries with husband and his wife who was clearly experiencing the side effects of chemotherapy.

On what turned out to be one of their last evenings on vacation, I saw a sand dollar in the sand and encouraged my daughter to give it to her. The woman accepted, thanked my daughter, and waved.

The next evening, the husband flagged us down. He said that they had been there on vacation to take a break from his wife's cancer treatments and that this was their last night before returning north. Every night, his wife had walked out to the beach looking for a sand dollar in hopes of getting a sign that she was going to get better. She never found one.

The husband said that according to her, being given the sand dollar by "an angel" was a more encouraging sign than she had hoped for, and that elated, she had since been telling everyone about it. (Clearly they didn't know "the little angel" very well )

I have no idea what happened to the woman, but sometimes timing can be just right.

Re: Right place right time

I've never been in the right place at the right time to be a hero or help anyone, the only 2 times I can remember were to do with me personally.

The first one was when I went to the doctor's, around 25 years ago, with "women's problems". In those days the only treatment was a full hysterectomy which I really didn't want to have done but I felt I couldn't carry on the way I was.

After I'd explained the problem he said "This must be fate, I've just had notification of a surgical trial for exactly your problem and they are specifically looking for women in their 30's" (which I was at the time).

This trial was for a less invasive procedure that required just an overnight stay in hospital and then if all was well discharge the following evening.

So I signed up for it, had it done and never looked back.

The other time was when I went to see the investment manager at my Building Society just to see what was available for a lump sum I needed to get rid of. She suggested a certain time restricted bond issue. I took her advice, paid me money in and 6 years later when it matured it had made a 45% profit.

Re: Right place right time

A different answer but il throw it out there anyway as you ask right place at the right time ( being ex forces I guess I have lots of being in the right place right time experiences , conversely others may well think I was in the wrong place wrong time and ruined their day ... so it’s all down to perspective )

Anyway firstly I’d very much like to say I’m a very non religious type of guy so much so my children have never been christened as I’m actually anti religious I guess ... it’s all rubbish as far as I’m concerned although I have read both the bible and Koran but for different reasons so I have a basic understanding ..

With that in mind ( my background /thoughts ) I will try and tell you a very true story that happened to myself ..
My daughters boyfriend bought a new car and like most young men couldn’t wait for his birthday to come and insurance to start meaning he could drive his new golf and stop ‘stealing ‘ mums shopping trolley little fiat thing lol
A few days after his birthday he calls my daughter at 21.30 and asks if she’s coming out for a drive ... Lewis I’m in bed and so no thanks ...
22.45 and Lewis hit a bridge sadly died at the scene , another girl Kirsty who had said yes sadly died 4 days later in a coma ..

A day or two later I was out with my daughter walking the dog in the local fields , beautiful evening not a breath of wind , warm , one of those nice summer evenings we all love however for the above reasons we were walking in silence my daughter in her own thoughts as I walked with my arm over her shoulder ... we chatted and been out about an hour when she says through tear filled eyes ‘ he is okay dad I know that ‘ ... I’m sure he is I replied .. honestly dad he is she said as he sent me a feather ... so to pacify I asked what the thing is about a feather and she said she woke the morning after the accident and found a white feather on her bed ... okay I said wondering what she meant as she went on to explain it was a sign ... hmmm I thought but okay if it helps her get through it ...now this is the rub , there we both are in a field , no trees above us or anything ... and at EXACTLY that moment she mentioned the feather and tried to explain it to me ... a big fluffy white feather floated down ever so slowly right in front of us !!! We both stood watching it as she just opened her hands at it landed on her palm .... she smiled and looked at me happy .
Now coincidence ??? You tell me but it certainly makes me think ... or where we just in the right place at the right time and this feather was just nothing more than coincidence ?

Wow, there could be a 1001 logical, rational explanations to that story, but I just can’t think of any.
