Covid-19: New restrictions to be announced for parts of England 'within days' - Jenrick

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54463081

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said the government was "currently considering what steps to take".

A three-tier system for local lockdowns is also likely to be announced.

Under the system, different parts of the country would be placed in different categories - although ministers are still discussing the precise details of the toughest level of restrictions over the next couple of days.

A final decision on the time period or extent of potential closures has not yet been made and a formal announcement is not likely to come until Monday.

It comes as North of England and Midlands MPs have been briefed by health ministers and chief medical officer Chris Whitty about the latest coronavirus data.

The number of people in the UK to have tested positive for coronavirus rose by 17,540 - an increase of 3,378 on Wednesday's figures - with a further 77 deaths reported.

Re: Coronavirus: Restrictions for England to be standardised into three tiers

Covid rules: How will the three-tier lockdown system work?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-52530518

The prime minister has announced a new three-tier system of restrictions in England to try to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Every area will be classified as being on medium, high or very high alert - tiers one, two and three.

What are the restrictions in the different tiers?

Areas with the lowest rates of infection will be placed in Tier One. They will face the basic national rules currently in force including:
  • Pubs, bars and restaurants will have to close at 22:00 BST
  • The rule of six (number of people who can meet up) applies both indoors and outdoors

Areas in Tier Two face an extra level of restrictions:
  • No mixing between different households indoors
  • The rule of six only continues outdoors

Most areas of England which are already subject to local restrictions will be placed in Tier Two - although some places will face additional restrictions for the first time.

The areas in Tier Two are:

Cheshire
Greater Manchester
Derbyshire
Lancashire
West Yorkshire
South Yorkshire
North East
Tees Valley
West Midlands
Leicester
Nottingham

The highest level of restrictions are in Tier Three. Areas where transmission is rising most rapidly will be placed in this category.

The prime minister said the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral, St Helens and Halton) - currently the only area facing Tier Three restrictions - will have the following restrictions from Wednesday 14 October:
  • Pubs and bars will be closed, except where serving substantial meals
  • Households cannot mix indoors or outdoors
  • Gyms, leisure centres, betting shops and casinos will also close
  • Shops, schools and universities will remain open
Always check your local information source for full details.

Re: Coronavirus: Restrictions for England to be standardised into three tiers

This is quite sobering isn't it.

Three Nightingale hospitals in Manchester, Sunderland and Harrogate have been told to mobilise.

Covid-19 hospitalisations on the rise, latest figures reveal

Figures show there were 3,665 Covid-19 patients in hospital in England as of Monday(12.10.2020), up from 2,593 a week ago, while 426 of these were in ventilation beds, up from 331 a week ago.

A total of 515 patients with confirmed Covid-19 were admitted to hospitals in England on Saturday - the most recent daily figure available - compared with 386 a week earlier.

Here's the Covid-19 hospitalisations as of Saturday broken down by region - last week in brackets:
East of England – 16 admitted on Saturday (19), 146 in hospital (11), 16 on ventilators (13)

London – 51 admitted (38), 361 in hospital (312), 65 on ventilators (56)

Midlands – 78 admitted (53), 622 in hospital (449), 89 on ventilators (70)

North East & Yorkshire – 145 admitted (117), 999 in hospital (656), 104 on ventilators (76)

North West – 177 admitted (130), 1,244 in hospital (889), 132 on ventilators (104)

South East – 30 admitted (19), 187 in hospital (115), 10 on ventilators (8)

South West – 18 admitted (10), 106 in hospital (61), 10 on ventilators (4)

Re: Coronavirus: Restrictions for England to be standardised into three tiers

It's about as clear as mud!
On the map our area is orange, we have few cases but bigger towns around us are higher.
When Boris was waffling I thought he said that high areas cannot meet indoors even if in a bubble.
That's ridiculous! I can't have my daughter who helps me in my house. The landlord is doing an eletrical test soon, I bet I'll have to let the electician in!

Please look at the map and see if Sedgemoor is "high". Our council has it on it's list. It just makes no sense!

The list above has the South West with least number of cases!

Just seen now you can mix with those in your support bubble, they've clarified!

Numpties!

We have the least despite Exeter, because Torridge, North Devon, is virtually nil, South Hams is low also.

England's chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, voiced concerns over the impact of the new measures, saying he was not confident they "would be enough to get on top of" the virus without further local restrictions.
Dissension in the ranks .....
