Nope, better for so many reasons if we offer and even better if some come here.

Why should we have? What happens to Hong Kong Chinese people has nothing to do with us. Apart from anything else WE'RE FULL TO OVERFLOWING.

Re: BIB - You might be prepared to submit to the ever-increasing attempts at domination by a totalitarian regime but I and many others are not.
This act will have be beneficial for the country too, and you can see some reasons why together with a guide to public feeling in the replies above.

Should it come to pass that large numbers do make the move it provides an ideal argument for a further increase in our infrastructure.
It's worth the offer for that alone IMHO.

Unless they bring with them enough money to pay for ALL of the costs that come with them and take up employment that results in export earnings more than the cost of imports they will require then WE SIMPLY CAN'T AFFORD THEM.

Quite the contrary.

"The central assessment of the economic net impact of the arrivals is a positive boost to the UK economy of between £2.4bn and £2.9bn over five years with the majority of this in the form of additional tax collected by the exchequer."

(And I've seen figures suggested of much more - IIRC over £4 billion)

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...icial-estimate

Since the estimates are based mostly upon taxes this doesn't include any of the benefits of increasing our infrastructure.

Oh and we know we have an ageing population.
Any working-age inward migration helps offset our increasing retired population.

In order for immigrants to be a positive value to our country they must increase our exports more than the increase in imports they create. The illusion that an increase in the population is automatically a good thing is 100% nonsense.

The very last thing that we need are more people who have a cost significantly more than any value they might have.

You have some stange ideas.
It is mathematically impossible for population growth to be linked to increasing exports when the world population is growing and therefore consuming more and more in terms of resources - and at a far faster rate than that of our country.

But never mind; the newcomers from Hong Kong are likely to be far more productive than the recent arrivals from Eastern Europe who appear to make their living by washing cars, manicuring nails or (worse) are subjected to slavery and prostitution.

Once the hordes of these and the other unhappy EU immigrants return to the EU's streets as we have repeatedly been told they will, it will surely pave the way for these new arrivals with housing and employment freely available.

It looks like the Chinese "Government" might not recognise UK passports issued to HK residents.

It is because an increase in our export market is going to be difficult to achieve unless we adopt - let's say creative policies - and focus on international money market needs (become a tax haven even more than we already are) that we must avoid any increase in imports.

Every person who is accepted into our country has a cost and a value.

Only those with a value exceeding their cost is a benefit. It is only the positive differential that can be used to extend our infrastructure unless we take on even more debt. It is only that differential that can pay off the massive debt we now have. The very last thing we need are more people who add to the imports bill.

What is 100% now CERTAIN is that there will have to be a change to our living standards that will make everyone's ears ring. We just can't afford any more drains on our national Bank account.

If China really wants to push the UN further when it is already out of favour (Uighurs; South China seas; Taiwan & more) as well as risking an exodus by illegal methods AND causing global outcry it still won't stop those who want to leave from leaving.
And it is more likely to start others thinking seriously too - Macau; Tibet; Taiwan & more.
