Re: Roberts Poems (part 3)
another type of 'love story'
The rise and decline of romance and families
It comes out of the blue straight from know where
Hits us smack in the face with a jolt
It provides us with rose colored glasses
And gives us the strength of wild colts
We’re surrounded by heavenly bubbles
Ego boundaries discarded for now
We know it will go on forever
And be different somehow and somehow
Each day is like walking in heaven
The sun shine much brighter and more
The rain makes us laugh
And mundane is just trash
We are walking on clouds by the score
And just for a moment they leave us
Our families and friends and our foes
They stand and they watch from a distance
Bemused but just waiting like crows
They’ve been to the church and shed tears
And danced and drank champagne till dawn
But when the rattle of cans has receded
They depart bedraggled and worn
For a moment a touch of pure magic
It even bedazzled me gran
But those left behind have no romance sublime
They make do the best that they can
There’s an unwritten law that applies here
‘this can only go on for a time’
The world cannot run on pure romance
We need your attention to bind
You can keep your romance for the weekends
The rest of the week is for us
So just pull up those sad ego boundaries
Come back to your senses – you must
They start chipping away at the edges
Ignoring the stars in our eyes
They are needy and wanting and selfish
“the wedding was when? - how time flies”
So we get dragged back into the mishmash
Of the world dragging feet through the mire
And are left bringing out the old photos
And reminiscing round a glowing log fire
A plea to you ‘un-romanced’ people
When you see that pure glow in our eyes
Just leave us alone for a long time
We don’t need you and don’t need your sighs
