Are you selfless?

I know I am and I can't be anything different.

Are you? Or were you, and people have changed you?

I personally think it's a good way to be. Some people can say it can be a negative quality because some can take advantage of you I don't see it like that.

I was, because I had a elder sister. I think I'm much better now.

Not entirely now as it has got me into trouble over the years, I am generous with my time and helpful as I can be without making myself ill with it now. I don't think it's a negative but if people do take advantage it can make your own life pretty miserable.

I wouldn't let myself be taken advantage of. I'd rather distance myself from someone who would do that.

I do what I can to help others, but I do my own thing too.

I have a close relative who does nothing for herself, but everything for others. I must admit that really irritates me. When she visits she jumps up to help me, when she should be sitting comfortably and chilling out. I shove her back in her chair telling her I will tie her to it if she moves again!

I had a colleague who I helped once or twice, until he was overheard saying that that he never did anything for himself as there was always some mug to do it for him.

Not long after that he died and his body was hardly cold before his widow re-married. Seems she had been having an affair all along - and that someone was doing that job that for him too! A bit of poetic justice, we thought.

Now, I'm more selective in what I do, though in the village, people do 'look out' for each other.

Yes I'm sure I am, I'm always concerned with the needs of others less fortunate than my family and me.

I don't quite know what you mean by 'selfless'
If you mean would I give everything up to help another person the answer is no - not unless they were dying - and they were someone I loved.

You have to say no sometimes - you only get one life!

I try to be helpful and sometimes put others before myself but I also know when to put myself first.........it's a question of balance.
