Everyone carries the virus on their skin, so that's why the nurses have to be very careful when they give you an injection or anything that involves an open wound on your skin. They have to make sure they wash their hands and swipe the area down that they are working on.

My daughter had cancer and she needed a blood transfusion. Notwithstanding that she had been on chemotheraphy for 7 years, so her resistance to this would have been very low, so extra care should have been used when giving her the transfusion to make sure she didn't catch the Golden Staph infection. Before the week was out she had Golden Staph which turns into Lymphodema.

It's a terrible thing to get and once caught you never get rid of it.

Ali do you have access to a special Lymphodema Massager ?? In Australia you have to be accredited to do massage on Lymphodema. They do a marvelous job and can get the infection under control by getting the swelling down and using the special suits.

Do you wear a special elastic suit, made especially for this ???

Unfortunately in my daughter's case, because of the cancer too, she only lived another 18 mths. In fact it's just a year ago that she passed away.

If you would like more information send me a PM and we can exchange emails on this.

I do know how debilitating this disease can be, but there is help available, at least here there is.
Hello Sandi, I'm very sorry to hear you're daughter passed away a year ago, it must have been very upsetting for you.

I'm not so worried about the Lymphodema (I must remember how to spell that word, I keep spelling it wrong) I'm worried over the sores on my leg, they are so bad. The trouble is in our health centre the nurses aren't trained to deal with either condition as it is a specialist thing as there isnt a Lymphodema centre in our area, it depends where you live to whether you can get the specialist help or not. We don't have massagers or elastic suits but what the specialist nurse will do is to show the nurses how to bandage my legs all the way to the thigh when she visits the next couple of times after Easter. I shall insist she gets to look at my sores that time which she wanted to do but the practice nurse didn't give her the opportunity.

I'm not holding out alot of hope this is going to get better because I'm not going to get the specialist help all the time.

Yes, insist they pay great attention to your sores. They should be doing that anyway. If all else fails then the tissue viability nurse should be attending to you. Sometimes they are the ones to get certain sores healed better than anyone else.

There are several causes of lymphedema and infection is one of them.

Causes include:
Surgery. Removal of or injury to lymph nodes and lymph vessels may result in lymphedema.
Radiation treatment for cancer. Radiation can cause scarring and inflammation of your lymph nodes or lymph vessels.
Cancer. If cancer cells block lymphatic vessels, lymphedema may result.
And infection.

I personally haven't heard of Bowie lymphedema.

Re: Lymphodaemia

I've mostly seen lymphodema in infections. Treated by antibiotics and dressings. I've heard of lymphodema after cancer, where Katie evil wotzername slagged off the Nolan sister with her "fat arm", after breast cancer.

All that bothers me is that Alicat gets the proper treatment and there's no negligence.

So very sorry to read about your illness Alicat. It must be so distressing for you. I have never heard of it before.

Pats,

If you looked above my post. I was replying to Bowie.
There was no need to be sarcastic or try to make out that I'm stupid and don't know what I'm talking about, just because I missed the comma after Bowie.

How was I to know you had missed off the comma?

I can assure you that I wasn't being sarcastic or making anything out....I honestly thought that it must have been an Australian term.

Don't start me off on that Katie Hopkins Myra, she is something else she is

Thanks for your good wishes, I would like to get the proper treatment as well but with the way the NHS is cutting right back - I don't think it's going to happen unfortunately.
