Why do Native Americans never have facial hair in Western films?

I’ve watched tons of Western films in my day and not once have I seen a Native American sport a beard or moustache, do they not have to shave?, someone told me years ago that they pluck out the hairs at puberty and that prevents any future growth, but I don’t buy that, anytime I plucked out hairs they always grew again.

Hi there Jem - its down to their diet particularly 'Saw Palmetto' - now, there will be plenty with facial hair, I remember seeing them years back with 'sparse' facial hair, but I'm sure they can grow it well now, if they want to .....

Just checked my book Jem and some tribes plucked the facial hair as it grew so sparse due to the diet ........

Ah their diet, never would have thought of that, thanks Patsy, that question always comes into my mind every time I watch a Western film.

I always wondered about it as a child, they have such wonderful long hair ........
They obviously used great products for their hair - long and strong
Saw Palmetto is used by many women to prevent facial hair growth ......

Native Americans do not have a lot of body hair... chest or legs or facial. My husband is only 1/4 Cherokee Indian and he has very scant body hair, didn't even shave until he was 21. One or two hairs on his chest.. None on his legs at all.

I heard years ago about the effect of facial hair growth and many women take them
I used to - but take so many vits I gave up on them and get rid of stray hairs .....

I had a reaction between 2 drugs I was prescribed, one result was that all my body hair fell out & my legs became red & blotchy.
Not nice.

I now rather like the smooth look & I have not had any further problems with my legs.

I am on drugs for my enlarged prostrate & I fancy that my facial hair is growing thicker.

When I was 16 or thereabouts I had about 5 whiskers on my chin, my uncle Vivian said put some milk on my chin so his cat could lick it off, the cad
