Re: Anyone with car mechanic experience?

I would have thought clutch failure as well, but different cars have different problems. Some can still be driven - some can't.

When the clutch went on my old Cortina estate I managed to get her home by crashing the gears until I could get a new system.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

The problem is somewhere between the engine and the wheels.

Lol!! Yes it was indeed the clutch, nothing left of it by all accounts Goodness knows what she has been doing to it! But it's all fixed now and she's back on the road; my purse is considerably lighter though!!!

I f the clutch was completely burned out it must have been slipping for ages, I'm surprised she never noticed it going.

Re: Anyone with car mechanic experience?

If the clutch was completely burned out the MPG must have been drastically reduced, extremely costly and very noticeable.

It would indeed have been very noticeable, she would have been revving away like mad, and going nowhere, especially uphill

From the opening post I thought it had gone suddenly, that's why I thought it couldn't have been the clutch.

Re: Anyone with car mechanic experience?

I had a Triumph Toledo may years ago where the clutch just disintegrated and had the same result, maybe its just a one in a few million thing and it can happen.
