Tea Or Dinner?

Getting the idea for this thread from Ffosse, where he said, he’d like the new potatoes in the pic, on another thread, for his tea.
I wondered, how many of you call your evening meal, tea?
I call it dinner!
I think it’s a regional thing, as my ex partner who was from West Lancashire, called the evening meal ‘tea’.

I say, dinner what do you say?

Re: Tea Or Dinner?

It's tea. Tea time. Dinner is lunch.
If people are really posh they have afternoon tea, brunch and elevenses.
In Scotland it's a 'fish supper' isn't it?

Re: Tea Or Dinner?

It very much depends on what sort of meal it is Angel darlin'. I tend to eat my main meal (dinner) at lunch time, so in the evening when I eat a plate of sarnies and biscuits or cake, that is my 'tea'. However, if I were to go out to a restaurant in the evening, then yes I would be going to 'dinner'. Confusing innit ???

I used to say "dinner" but, having lived 'Oop North' for ages, I now say "tea", as in 'avyadyatea', unless dining out when I might say "supper" or, more likely, 'bagachipsluv' .....

Re: Tea Or Dinner?

It's strange, I used to call lunch dinner, but now I call it lunch. Tea has always been tea, not dinner. Supper is something late on if I'm still hungry.

Re: Tea Or Dinner?

I have my cooked meal in the evening, so it is dinner for me.

Or perhaps an evening meal is a better term???

Floydy, It’s not about being posh. It’s regional, I’m sure?
I think you’re only posh, if you crook your little finger, whilst you drink your tea from a fine china teacup.
If you’re not, you slurp it from the saucer!

Re: Tea Or Dinner?

What about high tea?
I thought that was something like high five, and you would have to catch it?
