Smoking

I have smoked for many years, but decided enough was enough, I just couldn't afford it, even though I enjoyed it.
So four months ago I gave up smoking with the help of a nurse at our local surgery.
And yes, I am feeling rather pleased with myself.
But, oh my, I have put weight on.
So really not happy at the moment.

Re: Smoking

Well done you, don't woory about the weight gain too much at the moment the main thing is giving up the weed, which is the single best thing you could ever do for your health, as well as your lifestyle.

I was a forty a day man for forty odd years and gave up six years ago, put on a little weight then but now I'm much slimmer and fitter than I was evenvwhen I smoked.

Again, well done and keep ip the good work.

Good luck, takes time for the effects of smoking to wear off, and good discipline to maintain you resolve

Re: Smoking

I gave up a 60 a day habit in 1986, put weight on immediately, but then realised it was all the extra cash in my pockets.

Re: Smoking

Marion, I gave up around 25yrs ago and also put on weight, I think most people tend to eat a bit more to compensate but it tapers of and eventually you get back to 'normal'

Don't worry, giving up is a huge achievement and so worthwhile, no more smelly hair, clothes or damage to your lungs and more money in your pocket - what could be better?!

Re: Smoking

Great job Marion! I switched from smoking to nicotine lozenges. Kind of like Methadone, that is switching one addiction for another. It's been maybe six years since I lit up though. But also upping the exercise is a good idea, you can enjoy having clear lungs again!

Re: Smoking

Well done Marion! I, too, was a smoker and did enjoy it, but I have to say it's one of the best things I've ever done giving it up. As difficult as it was. Like everything else, it's a time thing. The more time passes the more you get used to not smoking. Don't worry about the weight gain, you've done something great!

Re: Smoking

Oh thank you all, you are all so supportive.
But I have been thinking about it today, and have decided to give Slimming World a try. I know of some ladies that have had great results with them. Also I can walk there and back, instead of taking the car
