Make sure the batteries don't go flat, Judd, you could get stuck in a time warp!

Sorry, Minx,( & Judd) I'd forgotten what it was like to work, having been retired for 29 years!

Not bragging, I'd rather be working!

I put my little prompt in as I saw the visits top 50 whilst the responses stayed at nil!

Apologies.

I found it sad that the teaching of history, at my school, was all about learning royal names & dates.

Useful for pub quizzes, but never really got the feeling, of the population , through the various wars and Pandemics.

Hence dumped History when the chance came.
Conversely, our history lessons were all about the Industrial Revolution, the Chartist movement (who wanted equal voting districts way back in the 1840s and are still being opposed to this day ), the demand for the vote for all and how any dissention was brutally put down, the Suffragette movement culminating in votes for all in 1926 and the rise of the Labour Party.
I've branched out to include all types of history, even the kings and queens

Ted, I spent an hour poring over those accounts. I'm going to share them with my mother because I know she'll find these particularly interesting.

This is the richest sort of history.

Thanks for sharing.

It was possible to feel the legacy of WW2, 30 years after its end, maybe because of where you were born?

I was born after the war ended, but I was always taught about what happened by my parents, and I remember the rationing went on for a few years after it ended...

Yes, I think that rationing went on into the 50s.

I do remember the "ways round it".

Doctors visiting local farms might come away with meat, instead of money, and pass some of it on the patients on their rounds.

The local Rock shop would break up sticks of rock & chocolate because broken goods weren't subject to rationing.
