Common Cold or Covid?

The DT, today, has some interesting info on the symptons of Covid versus the common cold.

"What should I do if I don’t know if it’s a cold or Covid?
Unfortunately, despite the “classic” symptoms no longer being the most common, the government is only giving away free PCR tests to people with a fever, loss or change in smell or taste or a new, continuous cough.

Spector says that given the changing nature of the illness, people should get a test even if their symptoms are milder or seem more like a cold. “Do stay at home and get a test,” he said, recommending people who think they may have a cold get a lateral flow test from their nearest pharmacy.

“If it’s positive, get a PCR test to make sure, but treat it as if you've got Covid,” he said.

I sent away for the PCR tests, not because we have any symptoms, but as a standby just in case when we go on holiday.
The package also included the lateral flow test.

I ordered it earlier this week and it was here in two days.

Re: Common Cold or Covid?

I caught my g.grandson's cold last week and as usual it went to my chest.I phoned the surgery and was examined in "The Red Zone".GP confirmed a chest infection but because I had a cough(no other covid symptoms) I had to get a covid test.Had the result next day-negative.

The old saying "confusion reigned and we all got wet" springs to mind!

Anyone should be able to get a test on demand. That's the message that is being sent so if you can't get a test that's because something is wrong in your local area. I've avoided having a test at all costs because I don't fancy sticking a very long q tip up my nose, but friends and family have all been able to get tests very easily. Some like teachers are regularly tested whether they like it or not.

You can get a box of rapid Covid Tests from chemists. As a volunteer, I'm required to do two every week.

They're not perfect, but better than nothing.........

Re: Common Cold or Covid?

The response here is to get covid tested if you show any cold or flu like symptoms, there are plenty of drive through testing stations.

The only bummer is that after a test you must self isolate until you receive a negative result.

Because of the lockdown tests are currently running at 45000 to 60000 a day in NSW but you get the result within 24 hours according to NSWHealth
