Tara, I have no wish to turn this thread into one of your argumentative God-rants thank you.

The subject is about famous childrens fairytales - NOT religion.
I would have posted it in the Religious section if it were.

Re: Should we ban Fairy Tales

I loved my fairy tales as a child. To my way of thinking it is the PC brigade who are sick individuals with nothing better to do with their time!

I was having such a lovely day - now I am in a grump!!

Precisely my thought too, Tabs.

They are the ones who corrupt innocence.

It is a wonder they haven't said Santa coming down the chimney (univited) is a pervert bribing small children with gifts!

Look at what our mothers would sing as they rocked us...

Rock-a-bye, baby
On the treetop
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
If the bough breaks
The cradle will fall
But mama will catch you
Cradle and all

Baby is drowsing
Cozy and fair
Mother sits near
In her rocking chair
Forward and back
The cradle she swings
And though baby sleeps
He hears what she sings

Hush a bye baby
Up in the sky
On a soft cloud
it’s easy to fly
Angels keep watch
Over as you sleep
So hush a bye baby
Don’t make a peep

Rock a bye baby
Do not you fear
Never mind baby
Mother is near
Wee little fingers
Eyes are shut tight
Now sound asleep
Until morning light

We didn't sing it like that....I can't remember how we used to sing it....anybody know...?

Mornin' Blue...I found this on Google:

What is the meaning of the Rock a bye Baby lullaby?

Well the lullaby 'Rock a Bye Baby' is referring to Native American Indians who used to rock their babies in a wood made cradle that was suspended on trees. Sometimes these cradles would fall.
