Did/was calling someone "head the Ball" come about because of the risk of dementia and other Brian related injuries ?

You make a good point about Boxing, don't think anyone can argue that the sport is quite barbaric when you think about it
My schooling was in Manchester. But yes, it was because of the incidence of what we now would call injury induced dementia syndrome amongst retired footballers who were only paid peanuts and when dropped from the team either went into groundskeeping, training, or just bumming around

I would not miss rugby if it were banned .
It has an element of sport about it but it is dangerous .
Boxing is brutality the idea that one man bashing the hell out of another for sport Is ludicrous.
It’s the sport of the Coliseum.

A lot of head injuries in Rugby are because of poor tackling technique, head on the wrong side of the legs they should be wrapping their arms around.Probably not easy to do I know with lots of stones approaching on the hoof.

Another couple of 'dangerous' sports. Motor racing, National Hunt horse racing, Paragliding, Bungie jumping, Mountaineering, to name just a few. Should these be banned as well?

They're not in the same category as boxing or rugby though, both of which are "contact activities", whereas those that you mention - and more - are primarily not.

Therein lies the difference.

Whether they are in the same category or not, they are still 'dangerous' sports.

Re: Should Boxing and other risky sports be banned.

I'm going to go out on a limb here ..... no, boxing shouldn't be banned.
Neither should rugby, even though, as has been pointed out and quite correctly, the objective of the sport is to knock nine bells out of your opponent. At least with boxing it is.

I think it requires a particular psyche to want to engage in such a brutal pastime ... but take it away and you're got some highly aggressive young men denied an outlet for their competitiveness.

I imagine more people are bothered by that 'wilful desire to inflict hurt' aspect and the brutality when they say it should be banned because many other sports are equally dangerous and pose a risk.. Skiing, rally driving, F1, ..... yet no one seems to call for their demise.
Blood and guts strewn across a race track perhaps don't offend the sensibilities and sense of civility as a chap with a bloodied smashed face can do.

Yes, they are dangerous but the salient point is that they're not contact sports.
