Re: Gumbud's poems

My Bestest Friends

They were there in the beginning
And knew no ends
My bestest friends

They saw me stagger, saw me fall
Then picked me up
My bestest friends

I said ‘Goodbye’- must go alone
I don’t need friends
Or bestest friends

They wished me well
And knew they’d lost
Their bestest friend

We’d meet a few times
As years went by
I had new friends

But they would come and go
With time
Fair weather friends

I heard they’d grown old
Gracefully
My bestest friends

They kept in touch
From time to time
But I was busy doing mine

We said goodbye
From distant shores
I’ll go my way – you go yours

It seemed too late
To close the gap
The best-friend era had just passed

And now I look at empty skies
Waning suns and mocking eyes
The crowds sometimes get in the way
But bestest friends were there to stay

Oh that's sad and reminds me of this

Re: Gumbud's poems

So you were my friends eh, or so you said
But where are you now when I'm depressed in bed?
Buggered off to pastures new didn't you without a 2nd thought
All that hand shaking and pats on the back meant zilch eh - nought
Anyway I'm fine alone in my bed and will rally once more
Without so called 'best friends' knocking on my door

F*** em .

A lovely sentimental work Gumbud.

Ah here Mark, you can't go endin' poems with "f.., 'em", think what could happen if we all started doing that, just think of that classic "Casablanca", if the author had become bored with her work and dedided to end it in a hurry 'The boy stood on the burning deck… Ah F... 'em.

'F*** em' I says to one and all
'F*** em' I says to someone tall, or small
Makes no diff to me if it causes pain
'F*** em' upstairs too giving so much rain.

'F*** em' is such an emotive blast to use
Shocks em out of their half arsed mental cruise
Kick up the bum it is meant to provide
F******** override

'Thank em' I says to one and all
'T**** em' I says to someone tall, or small
Makes a big diff to me if it causes no pain
'T**** em' upstairs to giving so much rain.

'T**** em' is such an emotive blast to use
Shocks em and leaves them somewhat bemused
Kick start to emotions it is meant to provide
Thank you; thank you in override

Hey, blatant plagiarism if ever I saw it.

Then again 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'.

Re: Gumbud's poems

Can I hear the sirens call?

Another mate has gone today
They’re falling down like nine pins
We once like Kingpin Penguins
Closed are ranks and stood together

But that was in the early times
When our ‘mateship’ was the strongest
But in truth it lasted five small years
And the rest was what was longest

We kept in touch by various means
Talked about the good times
Told tales of our new conquests
But ‘twas never like the old ones

And then the eyesight dimmed
The addresses torn and tattered
And as we sat in clovers new
We wondered what had mattered

Rare moments from our destined paths
We’d pay a fleeting visit
And tell each of our values shared
A sirens call exq uisite

But then as we planned the last
We’d missed the boat by minutes
Another mate has gone today
There will be no more visits!

The reaper calls to all come what may
No need to look for him in the light of day
Just fill your life with what suits you most
Pay respects to a fallen friend - mental ghost

Re: Gumbud's poems

An Ode for a near and dear one

they told me he had died today
I can't believe he went that way
It's like the bullets got your name
And we are left with empty frame

He's now been gone a month this fall
Today I nearly gave him a call
I can't believe that he's not here
My world is feeling rather queer

I know he's gone
but wish he'd call
his wicked smile used to enthral
I can't believe that he's not here
