Re: Gumbud's poems
Can I hear the sirens call?
Another mate has gone today
They’re falling down like nine pins
We once like Kingpin Penguins
Closed are ranks and stood together
But that was in the early times
When our ‘mateship’ was the strongest
But in truth it lasted five small years
And the rest was what was longest
We kept in touch by various means
Talked about the good times
Told tales of our new conquests
But ‘twas never like the old ones
And then the eyesight dimmed
The addresses torn and tattered
And as we sat in clovers new
We wondered what had mattered
Rare moments from our destined paths
We’d pay a fleeting visit
And tell each of our values shared
A sirens call exq uisite
But then as we planned the last
We’d missed the boat by minutes
Another mate has gone today
There will be no more visits!
