Deal or No Deal

The game will be over soon. Dominic Raab is to make a speech today, nothing new just more stonewalling as time is running out.

I see we have have come up with a new negotiating stance, if we don't get a good deal we will shoot ourselves in the foot and leave on WTO rules. Do they think we are thick?

Re: Deal or No Deal

You may not realise but in fact you cannot leave with no deal and move to trade under WTO rules.
Section 10 of the Withdrawal Act, now law, says that there will be no hard border with the Republic of Ireland that was not there before the WA. The absence of which was secured in the 1996 Belfast Agreement.
ie what was agreed in 1996 must remain post Brexit. That is UK law.

OTOH the WTO insists on a defined trade border around member countries soasto define and collect tariffs.

Therefore you cannot NOT have one and HAVE one at the same time.

So while you do not have one, you cannot trade under WTO rules. You HAVE to have a deal with the EU that describes that border and the terms of your trade with the EU..

Hi

Simples, we change our law, dead easy.

As it is Ireland who are causing all the trouble we also ban all Irish HGVs from travelling through the UK and also abolish the Common Travel Area.

Irish Citizens would then not be allowed free movement and work here in the UK.

If Ireland and the EU want to play silly idiots so can we and it will destroy the Irish Economy at a stroke.

Irish lorries have two new ferry routes to mainland Europe.
Yu have repeatedly promised (and have passed a law within this year) to not create any new border that was th ere before the Withdrawal agreement.
Ireland isn't making the trouble SF. It is Mayhem and her govt who made the law.
Do you honestly think the DUP will support her changing Section 10 of the WA??

and in fact Ireland's economy gets more from its trade with the US, not the UK.

So checkmate. You cannot have a hard border as it was and the WTO requires one. Perhaps Raab should start negotiation with the WTO too???

Looking likely UK will crash out, leaving it to the last final hours of the deadline before any meaningful conclusion is reached.

Re: Deal or No Deal

If we leave with no deal I read that the pound would possibly lose at least 10% and the stock market will soar until things become more settled....
