Eleanor
Where will you take me?
She never tells,
I go without question,
But she never looks back.
Outspread arms like gossamer wings,
Dressed in silver like polished steel,
She leads the way,
But She never looks back.
She beckons, I follow,
I know not the way,
Yet I cannot resist,
But She never looks back.
She never speaks,
Or does she, in a whisper?
I strain to hear,
But no sound does she make.
The wind whips her hair,
It sighs through her clothes,
Past fields and streams,
But she never looks back.
Over hills and vales,
Along narrow lanes,
People stare as she passes,
But she never looks back.
She is unique,
She is many,
Sometimes she hides,
But she never looks back.
Do not touch her,
Else she will scream.
She resents your touch,
Yet she never looks back.
I try to guide her,
To control her,
Yet she can end me in a second,
But she never looks back.
She is mine,
She is Eleanor,
She is ecstasy,
But she never looks back.
Eleanor Velasco Thornton was the mistress to the second Baron of Beaulieu and later became the model upon which the Sprit of Ecstasy was believed to have been based.
Here she sits on the front of "The Money Pit". When we go out for a ride my Lovely Cousin will sometimes ask, "Where are we going today?" I often answer, "Wherever Eleanor leads us".
Some models of the car like ours has her wired up such that the horn will sound, or "scream" if you touch her.
Later models have her disappearing into the radiator housing when the engine is turned off. On some she is removeable so you can keep her in a safe.
