Will It Never End?

Yet more grubby politicians and peers but on the Labour side this time: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/peer-denies...l?vp=1#87rbkgw

Can't they all be hooked up to lie detectors every month or something and put a stop to all this?

What right do they have to lay down laws for us and make decisions that lower people's living standards but are happy to feather their own nests?

It suggests this as a solution 'the power for constituents to "recall" MPs who breach the rules.' How would that rule be implemented?

Re: Will It Never End?

Karen darlin' - remember the PM I sent you??? - abolish the 'House of Lords' entirely and that will put an end to these self-serving greedy ba**ards!!! -

In answer to your questions: 1. Establish a directly elected second-chamber wherein members are debarred from acepting ANY other payments or doing other work outside the 'Senate'.

The recall of an MP could happen if that MP did something wrong. His/her constituents could ask the MP to resign and either fight a by-election again or they would have to select a different person to be elected - either way there would be a by-election.

I do remember the PM Uncle Joe - can constituents already recall an MP? If so, can that right also be applied to those in The House of Lords?

It isn't just about this particular case but all those that have gone before and have been already been proven guilty (obviously, it doesn't include those that were found innocent).

Re: Will It Never End?

Not a bad little earner being a peer in the house of Lords - £300 per day plus other benefits just for turning up. Just dub me Lord Alan of Kettering and I'll have some of that !

I'll have some of that too. Lord Marky of Glamorgan. £300 a day where you just drink whiskey and ask a question or 2 for a nice little 10k bonus a month off each question raised. Can't be bad.

No Karen darlin' - 'we' have no right of recall of an MP at the moment, once elected S/He is there for the period of the Government (five years), however recall of recalcitrant MPs is one of the things currently being discussed and allegedly is the 'sticking point' to the resolution of the issue relating to 'Lobbyists'.

As to Members of the House of Lords, since they are not elected, but appointed, no we have no control over them whatsoever, and they cannot ever be 'recalled'. The only solution is total abolition of the 'House of Lords' in its entirety.
