Emily Thornberry The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Thank our lucky stars Emily isn't in charge of trade.

Emily Thornberry is continuing her record of not understanding her brief – not least the details of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Emily has written a totally nonsensical letter to Liz Truss this week, seeking – among other things – reassurances that Britain joining the CPTPP free trade area won’t mean a trade deal with China via the back door. This is idiotic for a number of reasons:

1. The point of the CPTPP is to be a bulwark to China’s ambitions in the Asia Pacific

2. Why would Japan – the lead CPTPP country and a traditional opponent of China – allow China to join?

3. CPTPP doesn’t allow countries in who break trade rules, such as industrial subsidies, and selling products using forced Labour – i.e. China

4. Thornberry cites South Korea, who do want China to join, however aren’t members of the CPTPP – unlike Japan, who would veto both countries joining.
Keep it up Emily

Emily Thornberry is of course the Shadow Trade Secretary.

Labour seriously need to buck their ideas up if they want to stand any chance in 2024 because they have no chance with either their current crop or their current leadership.

Don't you believe it. There's an increasing number of people, granted the hard of thinking that HATE BoJo who would vote for anyone, even Blair, as a means to replace him.

Most of us in our demograph probably wouldn't but I don't think that applies to the general population.

Is there anyone in the Labour Party that actually knows what they are doing?
They need to bring back that intellectual giant Diane Abbott

Diane Abbott does have great appeal to a lot of people.

Indeed there are, and therein lies a potential disaster.

Boris has, as I have said many times, sold us short in what he calls Brexit. That has upset many Conservative voters, myself included, and in doing that he has put at risk the possibility of Labour gaining many votes.
Most of us know that that would be a complete disaster for the UK.

I think the safest thing to do in 2024 is to vote Conservative again, but if he doesn't change his plans pretty quickly he is likely to turn many voters against him and his party.
Surely, he is not so stupid as to do that, is he?

Never underestimate the power of the 1922 Committee. Had it not been for that lot we would probably still have the community charge as opposed to "rates".
