This afternoon I decided to drive down to the beach with my son & out of the corner of my eye spotted something that just didn’t look usual - swing back to find an immature Buff Banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) feeding on the front lawn of someone’s garden - I have never seen one in the Margaret River Region.

I sat in our bush camp five kilometres from the station gate. The camp was on a running creek bank in high bush country. I was watching 'Old Bob' tending to the cooking while keeping an eye out for the bird life with my camera in hand.
I happened to turn around and caught the master as he lifted the hot bread . He dropped it quickly as it was hot as.
The seasoned camp oven in the background has a venison stew simmering on the edge of the coals, both stew and damper are so good together.
