Blackberry harvest

We are having the best blackberry harvest that we've ever had, the two plants were here when we moved in and are a cultivated, thornless variety with sweet, large berries, much like the Oregon Thornless that we had at the last house. I can't be sure that these are the exact same variety however, but I have them on a trellis and with being at a nice height and thorn free they are a joy to pick.

Today's picking (pictured) weighed in at just under six pounds and is the second major picking, with perhaps the same again still to ripen on the plants. As well as giving some to the neighbours the freezer is filling up nicely and I'm well chuffed.

ETA the coin is a 2 pence piece to give some sort of scale

Re: Blackberry harvest

The rampant wild blackberries here haven't had enough rain and are miniscule and green...

The wild blackberries around here are nowhere near ready yet, although September is the usual harvest time locally anyway...

Very rarely do I water them Meg as the roots are sheltered and must be quite deep after all these years. They really are lovely big fruits though and not overly sweet, just how I like them...

Re: Blackberry harvest

Our 'wild' brambles have blackberries on them already.
