French Ports To Be Cut Out Of The New Trade Routes!
I see that Xavier Bertrand, President of the Calais region is frothing at the mouth with fury at being informed by the European Commission that all French ports will be cut out of the new proposed routes from Ireland to mainland Europe. He says “This is scandalous and totally unacceptable”.The French stand to lose billions of Euros as a result of this decision.
The new routes proposed after Brexit will be Dublin and Cork to Zeebrugge in Belgium, and Antwerp and Rotterdam in the Netherlands as they will no longer be allowed to use the UK as a land bridge to Europe.
The Commission did not say why they were leaving the French ports out of the plans but one insider said it was to avoid “congestion in Northern Europe”.
France says “This is scandalous, the risk of traffic jams applies to all of the said countries’ ports if we all have to make the same port checks. It will be the same for all the other ports as well as us. Why discriminate against French ports? We insist that the Commission should review this and the French should react!”.
Well, well, and there was France always assuming they were up there on the throne with Germany. No loyalty is there France? Especially when it comes to YOUR perks of power-sharing. Serves you right for always punching above your weight and trying to be the big I am!

Solo - I had forgotten about that threat! what WILL they do now as you say, when they can no longer give out the scare stories about mile high queues at Dover?
Realist - Now wouldn't that be a turn up for the books? France turning against the saintly EU? One can only dream.

HiIf there is a No Deal, there will still be queues at Dover and Calais, Irish HGVs are only a small percentage of traffic.
I do not understand what the rejoicing is about, a lot of our exports go by road through Dover and the Tunnel.
The object of Brexit is not to damage our own workers, but to increase Trade Deals and not be subject to the diktats of Juncker and Co.

Swimmy, for goodness sake, let us enjoy a little knockback at the French please! For the last two years we have had to keep our hands in our pockets as the French hurled every available threat and insult at us and our politicians just took it meekly on the chin as usual whilst the British public seethed.Any little bit of news that goes against that jumped up country and its sheer arrogance against the UK is music to my ears.
Of course, no-one wants things to go wrong between Dover and Calais, and I doubt it will. If they are being cut out of the loop, maybe they will start acting sensibly and appreciate the trade that comes their way from us and start treating us with a bit more respect!
