The Great

Channel 4 (first shown on Netflix or something like this). Comedy drama about Catherine The Great. "A genre-bending, anti-historical ride through 18th-century Russia following the wildly comedic rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great."

Started Sunday 3rd Jan so 2 episodes in now. Gloriously funny even if the language is on the strong side sometimes. Disclaimer at the start saying that this series is a story that occasionally tells the truth unlike that rubbish called The Crown.

Re: The Great

I have recorded&watched the 2 episodes on ch4.I fast forward the gory bits. The language is a bit strong but think it's well made and worth watching. Some of one liners are so clever and funny.

Re: The Great

It's funny enough that I laughed out loud sometimes during the series. It makes clear at the outset that it's not historically accurate. I found it very entertaining.

Re: The Great

Enjoyable series. Very much in the style of Death of Stalin. Much arbitrary violence and lots of swearing. Nicholas Hoult is a fabulous actor. So versatile. Douglas Hodge almost irrecognisable. Was that a fatsuit? Didn't realise that the star role is played by Elle Fanning who is the younger sister of Dakota. Overally a great distraction in these strange times.
