I think we are discussing two different types of troublesome forum users here. A 'Troll' isn't really a vindictive person but a trouble maker per se. They make contentious threads with a few to causing disruption. What stevmk2 seems to be suffering from is plain and simple cyber bullying, where he is dealing with a vindictive online personality. The latter I have always found to be easy to deal with in that you simply turn the tables on them by winding them up to such an extent they eventually get too personal and either get a warning or get banned.

I think you are right there WUMs I can easily ignore or even enjoy a bit of an argument with, but trolls deliberately hurt people in nasty personal way.

No, not always. Not all trolls will single a specific person out (which is, in my opinion, when the word bully would apply) for attention, it's to generally disrupt the entire thread.
