Let’s have a look at authoritarianism , France today 2019 and this let us remember was just about fuel prices ( something we get ripped off on daily in the uk ) but shows just as Northern Ireland shown back in the 70s that one protest because two becomes three becomes four five six becomes the norm .... now let’s swap a few yellow vests , a few pissed off Irishmen and let’s insert a million ... no, let’s make it two million ... sod it ... let’s make it 17 million ... that is 17,000,000 people ... now that would make one hell of a march ( possibly one hell of an April and may too )

When i looked into this a while back i found out that everyone is elected. They are either heads of state or MEPs. Of course the elected representatives also decide to engage others for specific projects. E.g barnier. But it's far far more democratic than the British political system.

I'm surprised that they let her appear in public!

She seems only to make her party look even more unelectable.
