Re: 83 years and too old for treatment for a broken arm
Good grief! what is the world coming to.
Reminds me of the time when I was still working and commuting at the age of 67. I was waiting on the platform to catch my commuter train to work in Telford. As it pulled in, it went further up the platform than it ever did, a door was right in front of me but unfortunately, it had been snowing and where the door was, no-one had gritted the platform. As I took a step forward, I slipped on the icy surface, and landed heavily on my left arm.
The pain was terrible, but it was my pride I was more worried about as the train was packed and everyone on board was just sitting there staring out at me.
Anyway to cut a long story short, the train staff were very nice and looked after me. When we reached Telford they escorted me into the Train managers office and called an ambulance out to take me to A&E.
I had never been to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford before, and I cannot praise them enough. As soon as the paramedics took me into the waiting room, the nurse in charge was a replica of Florence Nightingale!
All the seats were full of people waiting so she brought a wheelchair for me to sit in, then a cup of tea! The look on the faces of the other people there was one of shock! when I had finished my lovely cuppa, she asked if I would like another! then to cap that off, they called me in next!
I had broken my wrist in two places, but they soon had me laughing again when he called in two nurses to hold me down while he reset one of the bones. They even had the kindness of phoning HWMO who was working 40 miles away, to come and pick me up and made sure I was comfortably seated in the waiting room again with a magazine.
So not all Hospitals are bad. and certainly not all Doctors and Nurses.
