Brexit and Fisheries.

Hi

Fisheries were a big thing on the campaign and still are now to some.

There has recently been a spat between Southern Ireland and Scotland about fishing near Rockall.

A Brexit MEP has demanded we sink EU Fishing vessels in a 200 mile exclusion zone.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-a9002671.html

A few facts.

All Countries have an Economic Zone which extends 200 miles.

Where this would cross into another Countries Exclusion Zone there are International Conventions to resolve this,

Basically there is an agreed midpoint between the two coastlines.

Territorial waters are much less extensive, they extend 12 nautical miles, 14 land miles from the coastline, again split down the middle if two Countries are close together.

The map of our economic zone.

The UK has control of fisheries in this area after Brexit.

Here in the UK Fisheries are devolved.

The map of the devolved areas is here

After Brexit Westminster will not control all of our fisheries, England will only control a small part of them.

By far the largest area will be controlled by the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh and NI Assemblies will control theirs.

If Scotland gets Independence, they will take the majority of UK Fisheries with them.

Fisheries account for a tiny amount of UK GDP.

In terms of a Trade Deal they are insignificant for Westminster.

Lets hope that the likes of donkeyman and others take this onboard, but I have a feeling that they are so indoctrinated that it wont make the slightest difference.

Re: Brexit and Fisheries.

Just a couple of things ...

They are UK territorial waters- if Scotland leaves the UK it does not get waters that belong to the UK. The same goes to North Sea Oil

The UK GDP is small but the EU GDP is large from fishing UK territorial waters. They will lose, we will win.

Scotland's independence translates into the end of the UK as a sovereign state, ending the existence of UK territorial zones?

But they dont want independence. It's only the SNP nutters in Glasgow.

Look at the polls

Look at the result of the last indy ref

Then consider 1/3 of Scotland voted leave ... the numbers aren't there.

And 2/3 voted to remain in the EU do no certainty as to which way another referendum would go particularly if we leave without a deal

The votes would be split ... do the maths and bear in mind the outcome of indy ref #1

Plus the majority of Scots don't even want another referendum

Re: Brexit and Fisheries.

Well, if we do retain our fishing waters, it will hopefully help with the revival of our depressed coastal towns which were decimated and thousands lost their livelihoods when we joined the Common Market.

I also hope that whoever becomes PM, one of the first things they will do is to order a dozen fishery protection vessels. I have a feeling we may need them.
