Dairy giant Arla

I noticed, last night, on the Beeb's teletext service that Arla has warned that it will have to increase its prices of Cravendale milk, Lurpak butter, etc by up to 30% because of tariffs if we can't reach a deal with the EU. The company imports about 15% of its raw materials (milk, etc). As a matter of interest, why would anyone want to use filtered milk? What's wrong with the cow juice that comes in normal containers?

Craven dale semi-skimmed milk keeps longer, which is why I buy it. It is very difficult for one person to get out to buy the ordinary milk as that increases any coronavirus risk. I only shop once every three or four weeks for that reason. Online slots were not available when I would have used an online shopping service, so that's not been an option. While I do have a daughter and son-in-law living quite close, who would ordinarily help me out, they too have serious health risks so that's not an option.

As with most things when living on one's own, it's a case of being careful in the current circumstances, taking all he precautions possible but in the end it's as I've always had to do – just get on with it!

Ah, thanks Baz. I put that stuff out every day and often wondered what was the point of it being filtered.

Re: Dairy giant Arla

I think Cravendale milk is overpriced. I have been buying 2x 2 litres Waitrose own brand filtered whole milk for £2.20.
It’s like school milk which l loved.

I have also started to buy supermarket own brand block butter.
Waitrose own brand block butter is really very nice.

Probably far less expensive at Tesco, or from other supermarkets too. There are often reductions if buying more than one, I recall buying two for £3.00 when the single price was £1.75 each.

I cannot comment too much about Waitrose as I used to shop there myself, until I noticed just how much more expensive it was to shop there!

Michael McIntyre has various comments to make about Waitrose on the YouTube video below:

So stop importing and allow the UK dairy farming industry to get back to where it was before EU quotas were imposed! It was, I believe, this which made it unprofitable for us to have home produced milk anyway. IMO

None of this would have been a problem, if everyday folks hadn't inadvertently put Ernie out of business!

Hi

Quotas ended years ago Baz.

We import specialist cheese and export our own specialist cheese.
