I can't believe
you are one of the language police.
I've not noticed any real increase in the use of that word but even if so,
there are many words I can think of which might be deemed far worse.
Language evolves. Expressions become acceptable through common usage.
We do not now speak or write as Shakespeare did.
Or even as our grandparents did.
Authors and playwrights and public-speakers use such words because they are expressive - not through any lack of vocabulary.
It might be different if it were directed at somebody in a derogatory way
"
you're a bloody dill, Pumicestone ".
But in Malcolm's context ?
