Ayutthaya (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya)

Anybody been?

Could you usefully spend a few days there?

Just planning my visit to Thailand, was revisiting Chiang Mai and Golden Triangle but thinking of a slight change of plan.

First part of the trip the same - drive or train to Hat Yai from Alor Star (Malaysia) then overnight sleeper to Bangkok.

Originally was a night or two in the capital before overnight train to Chiang Mai but had a rethink might go to Ayutthaya if it is worth staying a few days and visiting the local area.

If we do that instead then might just spend a few more days in Bangkok then train to Hua Hin for a few days by the sea before sleeper back to Hat Yai.

The main problem is that arriving in Thailand by land you on ly get a 14 day visa whereas if you arrive by air you get 30 days

Anyway anybody been to Ayutthaya? any experiences welcome.
