the USA and Chinese Tariff War

Seems that Trump is claiming that the Chinese charge higher tariffs for USA goods ; than USA does for Chinese imports. But I have just watched news tonight and saw a USA company closing down with 100 workers because they are now having to pay higher tariffs for goods they need on their assembly lines?

Isn't this a case of shooting oneself in both feet? What does he say to his own workers and companies - "hang in there fellas/girls we'll re-employ you eventually?"

Hi

The Chinese do pay tariffs, they trade under WTO Rules.

Trump has started a trade war, not only with China, but with other Countries, including us.

However the Chinese do not reciprocate .
They flood countries with cheap products that the local market cannot compete with yet demand strict entrance requirements for things imported to China .

Hi

That is the fault of the Importing Country, they can put equally as strict entry requirements on.

The one who can produce the same thing cheaper will however always win.

Muddy - it's a case of supply and demand - if you have a demand we will supply - depends how much you want to demand and how much we want to supply and at what cost? - got it?

Under Trump.

Growth GDP rate 4%+ under Obama average 1.9%(To be fair Bush did leave the USA in dire straits)

Lowest unemployment rate for over 20 years at 3.9%

Lowest Black and Hispanic Unemployment rate down to below 6% first time ever

A Steel blast furnace shut for years coming back on line starting with 500 jobs, factories hiring more people, more vacant jobs then unemployed.

It might not last and it wont, but it seems that the USA is booming under Trump.

jobs lost 100 but get 500.

They are not stupid, but the reason the world hasn't retaliated in the past is because we need China for cheap goods. It drives our economies. Nobody here seems to understand how the economy works. China has been the answer to western economic dreams for the last two decades. It's driven growth and made lots of ordinary people wealthy enough to have an affluent lifestyle that would have been beyond the reach of so many in previous generations. It was never going to last forever but this is not the best time to kill it off. Any gains will be very short term and the losses will be catastrophic.
