PhD at 90?

If you are feeling a bit like me at this moment in time as in wanting to apply yourself to something intellectually but can't really be bothered then this guy sure is an inspiration.

Grandfather, 90, gains Lancaster University PhD

Bet he hasn't got a defeatest bone in his body.

Good for him! I really admire people who achieve their goals in spite of (or maybe because of ) a multitude of setbacks. As a 'learnaholic' myself I raise a glass to him!

All power to him.

That's fantastic and just goes to prove that we are never too old to learn.

What's more it keeps the brain active..

There has to be a party pooper - though I admire his achievements for his grand old age - the place he took at uni would have gone better to a younger man, who could make a good living and be of benefit.
(unless it was Open University?)

Re: PhD at 90?

While I say well done to the man for all his efforts, I don't see the point of it, alright so he will write a few articles on education and thats it. He says getting the degree gave him great satisfaction, so be it but what good will it do others?, as Janella said wouldn't it be better and more useful if a younger man had got the chance. You may never be too old to learn, but nowadays you don't have to go to university to learn.
