Suprise Surprise!

"The number of overweight and obese adults in the developing world has almost quadrupled to around one billion since 1980, says a report from a UK think tank."
On the BBC news this morning, now ain't that rich coming from a TV station that has about 30 cooking shows on every week.

Re: Suprise Surprise!

It's not cooking shows that are the problem though, it's cheap sugary fattening foods and our lack of control about what we eat. Would be lovely to say stop the shows and we would all be slim but it just doesn't work like that.

Also lack of choice in shops eg went into the petrol station last night coming home from work fancied something, couldn't see anything healthy or low in calories in the store, managed to resist and came home to make myself something but surely it's possible to stock something nice but low calorie ?

The manufacturers of processed food have a lot to answer to on this score considering the amount of carbohydrates they include. We don't eat much processed food but we do buy fruit juices and there's a LOT of sugar in them.

Yes I understand about the junk they are putting into the food today Julie, and agree with you it is the main cause, but surely watching food being prepared and cooked puts a yearning on the person looking at it, it's not helpful in getting people to eat less is it, even as I speak they are showing "The great British Bake off' one episode after another for God's sake.

Re: Suprise Surprise!

Well we love the bake off and watched every episode being on diets it was a bot like food porn LOL but it didn't make us eat anything extra if anything it made us think we no longer even really fancied the sweet and sugary.

So I guess it depends what frame of mind a person is in when they watch it.

What does nearly send us off the wagon is shopping, when we see doughnuts or bread reduced it's hard to resist, anything that is cheap is hard to resist. And some of the package labelling is very misleading low fat yogurt which is laden with sugar, weight watchers foods higher calorie than the normal equivalent foods as well. I see people picking up low fat cereals and think do they know they have more sugary calories there than I do in an egg and toast for breakfast ??

Re: Suprise Surprise!

I have to say I am overweight. I was 18st 9lbs & nowI'm still overweigt at 15stone 6lbs.

A good reduction in a year but the only eating less will bring my weight any lower & it's easier said than done.

I fear IF I lose another 2 or 3 stone, people will think I am dying.

Come to think about it........we are all dying.

Re: Suprise Surprise!

It is funny when I hit 41/2 stone lost mark I started to get people asking me if I was alright, lost 5 stones and people started saying don't lose too much you have lost enough. They can't seem to get their heads around I need to lose another 5 really before I can consider myself a normal weight.

Re: Suprise Surprise!

I do agree Jimmy, seeing food being prepared on these programmes has made us want to cook some of the tasty dishes
Losing a lot of weight can make you look old and haggard, like my daughters friend. She is obsessed with calories and fats and very boring to talk to. The bubbly pretty girl has gone with the weight.

I'm now off for my once a week treat, a fresh cream cake

I am thinking better boring than dead from the weight though so will be calorie obsessing probably for the rest of my life.
