Our local A & E

It has been on the radio today about our local hospital's A & E department being so abysmal. One Inspector said it was the worse one they had seen in the 40 years she had been doing the job. Apparently it was built to cope with 30,000 people but it having to now cope with 70,000!!! It isn't surprising that staff and patients are unhappy is it.
I can't remember the exact figure they suggest was needed to update it, I believe it was in the region of £20 million.
What's the betting that idea will get veto'd?

Numbers probably don't mean much, till you are lying on a trollie.

Is it any wonder that they can't get A&E staff given such conditions?

Per year I would imagine, if it is, then that still works out at 191 patients per day if I am right? Then perhaps they get three times that many with all the drunks at weekends, but quieter during the week, I don't know. And when you think that perhaps a lot of those cases are probably much more time consuming and serious than a GP would have to deal with, I guess that's why the long waiting times. I've no idea how many doctors have to be on duty to cover.

Re: Our local A & E

I have watched a couple of programmes on channel 4 about an A&E department and was quite surprised by some of the patients who were attending with minor problems that should really be dealt with by a GP.

I though A&E was for serious problems .

Can you give us the name of the hospital, Mups? I might be able to find out some statistics re patient numbers and staffing levels.

....yes that's the one Ania That consultant comes across as a lovely man with great empathy and understanding.

This programme has been running for a while, I do wonder if some people watch it and get the impression it is acceptable to attend A&E with minor ailments.
