Asthma

I'm asthmatic and I'm having the usual problems this time of year so I wondered how others are doing.

Last year I had a major attack that almost hospitalised me - and a subsequent lecture from the Doc, but I'm working so I can't do what he says - I have to work or we starve!

Because I'm working both indoors and outdoors I often have to go from one environment to the other - cold / damp to hot / flippin' uncomfortable - so the reactions I get are typical - I get short of breath!

According to the Doc, I should "avoid this type of work" !!

I've been struggling a bit for two weeks now and of course there's no consideration at all at work, despite the fact that I'm still turning up on time, ready for work when, at times, I can barely draw breath!!

How y'all doing out there - eh?!! stevmk2

Re: Asthma

Yesterday, a woman from a 'carers agency' came to meet me at my Mum's house, fill out forms and see what exactly Mum needed .... sheeeesh

Oh dear ... she didn't want to come in to start with because she could detect smoke !!! and was asthmatic

Mum's 91 and is NOT going to give up her cigs now is she ~ been smoking since she was 14 years of age

So ... there are, apparently, only a few 'carers' who don't mind smoke and nobody is available

Back to square one again

My deepest sympathy to all asthmatics, but this situation is plainly ridiculous

Like you matey I'm hanging on in there, but waiting for the ice and snow - if that arrives I think I may have to hibernate.

Re: Asthma

Another asthmatic here. Actually doing a lot better since a long time. Have been taking moderate amounts of vitamin D, and things slowly started to get better. Apparently these two things are related in some way. The weather doesn't change a whole lot over the course of a year where I am. It's warm, or warmer. Hardly ever really cold and damp. Now I can finally run an agility course with my dog, without being completely out of breath. So, one happy camper here

That is understandable if smoke triggers her asthma .

What is your doc doing for you medication wise ? I have been asthmatic since childhood, some 70 years, since the days when the only medication available was ephedrine, a dangerous heart stimulant long since banned. By careful targeting of my medication my doc keeps the problem under control. The only time it went wild was when a cold turned to a chest infection and I spent a Xmas holiday in our local hospital.
Be sure your quack is giving you the best advice and treatment, if not ask to be referred to the specialist at the local clinic or hospital.

I am very anti smoking myself but I am beginning to think things have gone too far when carers cannot be found for smokers. I have allergies myself but never expect anyone to stop their lives for me I just use a mask and gloves when necessary.
