Re: Why I no longer buy pre-washed salads

Not a lover of salad but if we do have it I buy stuff locally sourced if possible, whole, so I can wash it myself. I chuck the outer leaves of lettuce, cabbage etc and soak the other leaves in salted water then rinse each leaf, tedious I know but can't eat it otherwise.
Maybe that's why I'm not keen on salad.

I never buy pre-washed bagged salad .... and even if I did I think I would always wash it myself first as I'm fussy about how clean my greens are

Much prefer a homemade salad for freshness...

I never like paying through the nose for anything and those bags of salad are a complete rip-off

Bought them a couple of times when the price had been reduced considerably and I was in a hurry ~ they still seemed over-priced

Re: Why I no longer buy pre-washed salads

I think price depends on facilities we used to buy them as we had no fridge when camping so buying all the ingredients separately would have worked out dearer as we would have wasted so much. Same goes for stir fry veg the ready to do bags may be more expensive but we wouldn't use all the other ingredients if we had bought them individually on a weekend away.

I used to be able to buy the frozen bags from our Kwiksave and they were definitely worth it

Surely if you bought a couple of different lettuces, cherry tomatos, carrot, cucumber, bean sprouts, nuts and all the ingredients that went into a salad it would cost more than a bag of prepared salad and you would throw three quarters of it away unless you were feeding the 5000.

Paying a few bucks for a bag of prepared salad seems a much cheaper and more efficient option to me.

Indeed as I said unless you can store it all for one or two people they are great, sadly just not very nice because of how they treat it.

Since I don't eat 'salads', this is not something that concerns me greatly.

It's the one thing I miss most with my allergies, I used to love salad and had them almost everyday either lunch or dinner.
