Bedding plants.

I have given into the temptation to buy some. But the weather here has turned really cold so they will have to stay in the shed for a while. Has anyone planted any outdoors yet?

Re: Bedding plants.

Our greenhouse is heaving with plants at the moment Mall, but we won't risk planting anything out for another three weeks yet..

Not bothered yet, too much water and the grounds so soggy.

Yes it looks like another three weeks Barry. It's not worth the risk but I'm overly keen to get going. I need to learn to have patience

I've always understood that you don't plant out tender plants until the end of the third week in May.........that's another 4 weeks.

Re: Bedding plants.

I have quite a few trays of plants ready and waiting to be planted, normally I plant out in May but as long as this weather continues they will stay undercover.

Re: Bedding plants.

I've not grown anything much from seed this year - just sweet peas, but I am itching to get them put in.
I've not bought any bedders either yet and I am trying to hold off. I had thought that if we get a hosepipe ban I would not get any at all, but I do like fuscias. Maybe fuscias and sweet peas are all I will bother with this year. Sunflowers for the grandchildren to watch as well and runner beans as usual.

Re: Bedding plants.

Well we seem to have a shorter season here than we did in Blackpool,,no hanging baskets till middle of June and its all over by september, so this year I will just buy three red geraniums for my steps and thats it, I say the same every year and baskets out for two days and the wind kills them, so no way Jose.
