Use Google Earth - you can plainly see a direct Northern direction from Northants to Edinburgh skirting to the left of Durham.

The odour is diverted from Edinburgh by the prevailing East to West wind blowing in from the North Sea. Count yourself lucky for the normal pungency will have abated by then, but be warned, it's still strong enough to kill any plants or strip paint off surfaces.
